Initial Consultation

During an initial consultation we will discuss the issues you would like to address, as well as your psychiatric, family, social and medical history.  The first meeting lasts 1-1/2 hours, though additional sessions may be required to complete the evaluation.  Dr. Kaplowitz may recommend lab tests or referrals to other medical specialists.   After the consultation,  treatment recommendations will be made, which may include psychotherapy, treatment with medication, or referral to another clinician or treatment setting.

Individual Psychotherapy

In psychotherapy Dr. Kaplowitz works with patients to understand their unique patterns of thinking, feeling, and being in relationship, in order to  deepen their self-understanding, modify self-limiting behaviors, find relief from symptoms of depression and anxiety, and achieve personal goals.  Therapy can focus on a specific symptom, life event or change, or can be more explorative in nature.  Visits are 50 minutes in length.

Psychopharmacology (MEDICATION)

Following the initial consultation, medication may be recommended to treat specific disorders or symptoms such as depression, irritability, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, and inattention.  This may be in conjunction with psychotherapy or  Dr. Kaplowitz may collaborate with a patient's existing therapist.  Follow-up medication visits after an initial consultation are 25 minutes in length.
